Raul Jimenez, Mexican forward of Wolverhampton, underwent surgery after suffering a skull fracture, a consequence of the collision with David Luiz, defender of the Arsenal.
« Raúl is feeling fine after last night’s operation, which he underwent in a London hospital.
Since then he has seen his partner Daniela and is now resting. He will remain under observation for a few days while his recovery begins, « the club said in a statement.
Wolverhampton thanked Arsenal for the attention paid to the player.
« The club asks that Raúl and his family now have a period of space and privacy, before further updates are provided in due course, » he said.
The accident occurred on Sunday, when Wolverhampton won by two goals to one against the ‘Gunners’.
The injury occurred five minutes into the Premier League match, after Willian’s corner kick was charged. Jiménez and Luiz contested the aerial ball and collided heads, the blow reverberating in the empty Emirates stadium.
Medical personnel on the court were quickly asked for help. Luiz sat down after a couple of minutes and was eventually served on the wing to the left of the Wolves’ goal.
But Jiménez remained lying down and without moving. They finally placed him on a stretcher. Luiz, who had a bandage on his head, went to see if Jiménez was okay before the Brazilian returned to the field and continued playing.
Jiménez was carried on a stretcher to one side, wearing an oxygen mask and still not moving, before being carried through the tunnel.
