The only survivor of the explosion of a gas pipe on the Tepic-Guadalajara highway, died of complications from the injuries caused by the accident, the Nayarit State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed this Saturday.
Mayra Avilene, 30, had burns on 97 percent of her body, and had been treated for four days in the intensive care area of the Puerta de Hierro hospital in Tepic.
In the accident, 14 people died due to calcination, and to the disastrous figure is added the death of Mayra Avilene, who was traveling in a Kia-type van, along with other people who worked on the tourist promotion platform « Hola Nayarit. »
His brother Leonel Partida and the director of the company, Juan Carlos Rivera Muñoz, were traveling in the vehicle, who also died.
According to the expert opinion of the Nayarit Prosecutor’s Office, the driver of the pipe was responsible for the accident by not keeping the safety distance between the vehicles that circulated on the highway.
According to expert reports, made up of witness interviews, preliminary technical reports, and inspections, fixations at the intervention site, the pipe collided with a red Chevrolet Cruze, and then overturned on its right side, caught fire and exploded.
As a result of the shock wave, the Kia truck in which Mayra Avilene was traveling, and a Honda Civic that were circulating in the direction of Guadalajara, were incinerated. A Ford vehicle, type Superduty, which was stopped on the highway, was also affected.
The agency reports that the bodies of the 15 victims they have already been handed over to their relatives.
The medical expenses of the recently deceased were covered by the insurer of the vehicle in which she was traveling, and by the highway insurer.
At the moment the prosecution maintains approaches with other related insurers to guarantee full compensation for damages to victims.
On the other hand, the company Transportes de Gas Sol, operator of the freighter, informs that it will compensate the damages that are incumbent upon it, and in a statement regretted the death of Mayra Avilene.
