Former baseball player Fernando ‘El Toro’ Valenzuela and tennis player Renata Zarazúa were chosen to receive the 2020 National Sports Award.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador published this Friday a decree in the Official Gazette of the Federation granting said recognition to these two figures of Mexican sports.
Valenzuela, who triumphed in the Major Leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was awarded in the ‘career’ category, while Zarazúa, who in September became the first Mexican tennis player to advance to the second round of Roland Garros, was awarded in the ‘professional athlete’ category.
Other award-winning athletes are:
-The cyclist Jessica Salazar
-Divers Yahel Castillo and Juan Celaya, who compete together on the 3-meter synchronized springboard.
-Mexican National Women’s Softball Selection
-The Paralympic taekwondoin Juan Diego García López
-Jesús Salvador González Arreola
-Stefan Marinov Diankov
Lucila Venegas Montes

-Mauricio Sulaimán Saldívar, president of the World Boxing Council.
The president pointed out that the award ceremony will be held this Friday at Campo Marte.
